Travertine Pool Deck, Turf Lawn and Putting Green

A full rear-yard rebuild on a mid-century brick home. Silver travertine wraps the pool and the covered deck, a shaped turf lawn takes the place of grass that could not survive the summer, and a putting green with two cups sits behind a curved seat wall.

Scope
Pool deck and coping · Artificial turf and putting green · Seat and retaining walls · Paver walkways
Materials
Silver travertine · Split-face CMU · Pavers · Nylon putting turf

Porcelain Walkway and Brick Courtyard

A narrow side-yard passage between two original brick walls, rebuilt with large-format porcelain. The run is pitched away from the house so monsoon water clears the walkway instead of pooling against the brick.

Porcelain walkway · Grading and drainage · Masonry repair
Materials
Large-format porcelain · Original clay brick

Why AYJ

The parts you can’t see are the parts that fail.

Anyone can set a paver. What separates an outdoor deck that holds up in Tucson from one that shifts in two summers is the base, the drainage and the crew doing the work.

  • One crew, not four

Grading, drainage, masonry, hardscape and turf are all in-house. You get one schedule and one point of contact instead of chasing subs.

  • Built for Tucson conditions

Base depth, joint sand, expansion, and material choice all change when it is 108° and monsoon season is coming. We plan for both.

  • Drainage before finishes

Where the water goes gets settled before a single paver is set. That is the difference between an outdoor deck that lasts and one that heaves.

  • You know the scope

Layout, materials, what is included and what happens next, in writing. No moving targets once the work starts.

  • We respect the property

Access routes protected, materials staged tidy, and the site swept down at the end of each phase, not just at the end of the job.

  • Residential and commercial

From a backyard deck to structural block work on a larger site. The same crew, the same standards.

Materials

We work in stone, block and tile, not just one product line.

The right material depends on sun exposure, traffic, drainage and what the house already looks like. We’ll tell you honestly which one fits, including when the cheaper option is the right one.

How It Works

Four steps, no surprises.

  1. Walk the Property

We come out and look at the actual space. Goals, timing, materials, access, drainage, and a realistic budget range.

  2. Build the Scope

Layout, measurements and material options confirmed in writing, so you know exactly what is included before anything starts.

  3. Complete the Work

Prep, base, installation and finish work, with updates as we go and the site staged and cleaned at the end of each phase.

  4. Final Walkthrough

We walk the finished job with you, handle anything left on the list, and show you how to care for the materials.

Residential & Commercial

Backyards are the day job. Structural work is why they hold up.

The same crew that pours footings and lays block on larger sites builds the walls in your yard. That is the reason we can take on the parts of a project other outdoor companies subcontract out.

Residential outdoor living

  • Complete backyard builds
  • Pool decks, coping and renovations
  • Patios, walkways and driveways
  • Turf lawns and putting greens
  • Outdoor kitchens and fire features

Commercial & structural

  • Structural block and site masonry
  • Perimeter and retaining walls
  • Common-area hardscape
  • Repairs and renovations
  • Larger multi-phase scopes

Where We Work

Based in Tucson. We stay close to home on purpose.

Staying local means we can get back out to a job quickly, we know which suppliers actually have material in stock, and we have built in this soil and this heat long enough to know what holds up.

What kinds of outdoor projects does AYJ handle?

Complete backyard builds, paver decks, patios and driveways, travertine and porcelain pool decks, pool coping, artificial turf and putting greens, outdoor kitchens and BBQ islands, fire pits and fireplaces, CMU retaining and perimeter walls, stacked stone, stucco, water features and outdoor lighting.

Do you provide free on-site estimates?

Yes. We walk the property, take measurements, talk through materials and give you a scope in writing. There is no charge for the visit.

Can AYJ complete several parts of a backyard project?

That is most of what we do. One crew handles the demo, grading, drainage, hardscape, masonry and turf, so you are not scheduling four different contractors around each other.

Do you install travertine and porcelain around pools?

Yes. We set travertine and porcelain pool decks and cut coping to follow the pool radius, including renovations over existing concrete decking.

Does AYJ build retaining and perimeter walls?

Yes. Retaining walls, perimeter and privacy walls, seat walls and planters, built on proper footings with rebar and drainage behind them.

Can I send photos before scheduling a visit?

Please do. Photos of the space and a rough idea of what you want let us tell you quickly whether it is a fit and what the visit should cover. You can attach them to the estimate form or text them to us.

How does the estimate process work?

You send a few details and photos, we schedule a walk of the property, and you get a written scope covering layout, materials and what is included. From there we set a start date.

Does AYJ handle commercial work?

Yes. Alongside residential outdoor living we take on larger structural masonry and site work. Tell us about the project and we will let you know honestly whether it is a fit.
